10 Space Saving Tips For Your Home

June 30, 2020 Lifestyle
Organizing and folding laundry

No matter the square footage of your house, small changes can make a big impact. Make the most of your square footage and make your home feel larger with these space saving tips. Better organization with lower stress can maximize your enjoyment. Here are 10 tips to save space in your home:

Kitchen

Hang Your Cookware

Hang pots and pans on wall hooks in your kitchen to free up cabinet space. This works especially well if you have pretty copper cookware to double as kitchen decoration. Wall-mounted storage can save a ton of space in your kitchen cabinets. Similarly, you can use hooks in your cabinets to hang mugs.

Drying Rack over Kitchen Sink

You probably rarely use the space above your sink. When looking for a place to dry dishes, look up instead of monopolizing counter space with a conventional drying rack. A vertical drying rack can store dishes up top and cutlery/ utensils on the side. And the water dripping off wet dishes will just go back into the sink.

Living Room

Use a Wicker Hamper for Blankets

It’s nice to have blankets around when you want to cuddle up on the couch. But blankets can take up space and make your room feel cluttered and messy. Adding a simple wicker hamper or basket for folded blankets means your living room won’t constantly look like a couch fort.

Add an Ottoman with Storage

Use it as a footrest, extra seating for guests, or even a coffee table with a tray on top. Just make sure it opens up to extra storage. You can also store blankets here, as well as throw pillows, exercise equipment and more. Get creative! Just make sure the items aren’t fragile as the ottoman will likely be moved around.

Bathroom

Over the Toilet Storage

Add shelving over your loo for toiletries, towels and toilet paper. The space above your toilet is another area that usually goes unused but can be a great place to store items that normally fill your drawers or cabinets. You can also place decorative items like plants and candles here to create bathroom ambiance.

Shelving on Back of Doors

The back of bathroom doors is a commonly overlooked opportunity for storage. Instead of cramming toiletries or cleaning supplies into precious storage space, organize them on the back of your door. Search for storage solutions designed for closets as a starting point or opt for an over-the-door organizer if your door frame allows it.

Dining Room

Fold Out Dining Table

If you don’t have a lot of individuals normally dining in your home but want the opportunity to entertain, try a dining table that expands or folds out for extra company. That way, when it’s just your immediate household it can be collapsed to save space. And when you want to host a holiday, your dining room can accommodate all your guests with a simple transition.

Use Benches

For smaller dining rooms, you can use bench seating instead of chairs. They take up less room and your guests will feel like they’re at a rustic restaurant. They can then be tucked back under the table when not in use and can fit more guests than ordinary chairs in a pinch.

Bedroom

Storage Under Bed

Purchase a bed frame with built-in drawers underneath to store clothes and other items. Or, find long skinny storage bins that will fit under your current bed frame and box spring to organize these items. This is especially great to stash seasonal necessities, like bulky winter clothes and accessories during the summer.

Clever Hack to Get Rid of Clothes You Don’t Wear

It can be hard to let go of clothes, no matter how bad you need to clean out your closet. So, try this: turn all your hanging clothes backwards, with the hook facing outward. After wearing an item, return it with the hanger hook facing towards the back of the closet. After one year, consider getting rid of all clothing on hanger hooks still facing outward.

We hope you enjoyed these space-saving tips. Make the most of the space in your home sweet home!
